The Ropeworks Building and Community

The Ropeworks is a deed protected Artist Building, located in the north end of New Bedford Massachusetts. The building is a 25,000 sq ft, single story, "sawtooth" style mill building. It is the last remaining section of the Pierce Mill complex, the rest of the factory has become a city park. The section that is the Ropeworks was built in 1909 as a "weave shed" for the the mill. The North facing clear story windows gave an ample supply of even toned light for the dying of cloth, which makes the building today, a bright place for artists to live and practice their craft. The rehab and construction of the building was done by artists with artist is mind. The building's halls are 8'+ wide with track lighting and picture rail moulding to make the building instantly become an gallery. We have a loading dock and industrial strength floors, and 6' double doors into the units. No matter what your visual medium, you can practice it here.
